POPs (Petrie's Outreach, Program and Services)
posted on November 04

In 2016 Petrie Memorial purchased an old storefront that was “Pops Video & Tanning Bed.” The hope was to use this space as an extension of the ministries of Petrie Memorial UMC to the people of Todd County, Kentucky.
In June 2018 Petrie took out a $71,000.00 loan in order to finish converting the old storefront into what we know today at POPs. As of October the loan has been paid off and POPs has been serving the people of Todd County for almost 2 years. We left the name POPs because we knew everyone in Todd County knew where POPs was located. Yet we have refashioned the name and what once was a video and tanning bed is now Petrie’s Outreach, Programs and Services (POPs).
On a weekly basis POPs is used as a third place for people to simply gather on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am-1pm. Every Tuesday evening at 7pm Celebrate Recovery celebrates together. Throughout the week we have different small groups meeting in the space and there is hardly a weekend that people are not renting the space for family gatherings, social events, etc. And every Sunday evening at 5pm we offer an alternative worship service for those in our community who aren’t connected to a church.
As a result of all of these ministries we have celebrated 7 baptisms and have received 5 new members on Profession of Faith! On October 27 the POPs service, itself, will welcome its first 2 new members by way of Profession of Faith!
